Hurricane Matthew affected more than 1.2 million people and many are still rebuilding their lives. Some people, like Milflore must still rely on family members for both food and shelter.

In situations like this it is important to offer continued support to affected communities long after the immediate impact of the disaster. This includes targeted outreach to women and girls not only for their reproductive health but also psycho-social support in safe spaces with mentors who can help girls overcome trauma and plan for their future.

Girls like Milflore need more support to achieve their full potential. For those with academic ambitions being able to complete school would make all the difference.

UNFPA and the UN system have continued their support to rebuild the Grand Sud area but the needs remain great.

Milflore remain out of school and are still waiting to return home one year later.
