Family Planning

The number of new family planning users is increasing at the rate hoped for by the 6th program. Mobile clinics and community initiatives have demonstrated their effectiveness in sustaining the dynamics of health centers. The leadership of UNFPA has played a major role in family planning policy, its implementation and its quality control. In addition to providing inputs, UNFPA supports training of providers, awareness campaigns including mobile clinics and the implementation of protocols. Haiti is the only country in the region with such a comprehensive and free range of contraceptive methods. UNFPA is responsible for 75% of this supply.

UNFPA offers support tailored to the needs of institutions to conduct information campaigns in communities. These campaigns are UNFPA's last mile approach to reaching the most vulnerable groups, especially adolescents, youth and the poor in the most remote areas of the country. UNFPA has demonstrated great responsiveness and flexibility in adjusting its input storage and delivery system, despite multifaceted crises. The succession of crises has disrupted the national logistics chain beyond the capacity of the Country Office to pre-position supplies. During the period, UNFPA was reactivated to resolve the storage problems posed by the insolvency of the Ministry of Public Health and Population, then distribution through the network of public pharmacists who received training.

Long-term contraceptive methods are spreading among the population. The number of service points that offer them is increasing.
