Port-au-Prince, September 13, 2024 --- The first draft of the orientation document for the technological education stream of the new secondary school will be ready and submitted to the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training as early as September 17, 2024, informs the Director of Secondary Education, Miguel Fleurijean.
The document will provide information on the organization of technological secondary education, its duration and its professions.
Discussions during the 4-day workshop focused on 8 to 10 series from which the Ministry will have to choose based on their importance for Haiti.
"As soon as the final guidance document is ready, we will move on to the curriculum, recalling the norms and standards," Fleurijean specifies.
The director of secondary education intends to make a plea to obtain funding. "Because this school that we are planning needs equipment that is expensive," he adds.
Previous reforms could not be implemented due to lack of funds, stressed educators who participated in the workshop.
The new 4-year high school includes three streams: a teaching stream, a technological stream and a pedagogical stream.
According to the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, the technological stream aims to allow high school graduates in technological education to directly access jobs as technicians or to pursue higher education in establishments where their specialties are taught.
