Port-au-Prince, March 22, 2023 --- UNFPA Representative in Haiti, Saidou Kabore, has left Haiti to join his new position as Representative in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The Burkinabé led the Haiti Office for one and a half years.
UNFPA staff, representatives of UN agencies and partners held a farewell ceremony for him, which was marked by very touching words.
The key words spoken about him are highlight his interpersonal skills, his openness, his dynamism, his strategic orientation, his courteous relationship with Partners, his acute sense of response to urgency, and his focus on UNFPA's mission to achieve a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is realized
His birthday - which fell in the same period - was celebrated by the staff, both in Port-au-Prince and in the provincial cities.
A factsheet published by UNFPA in Haiti(https://haiti.unfpa.org/en/publications/key-achievements-humanitarian-c…) reveals some key results achieved from January 1 to the end of December 2022 on the humanitarian level, specifically in terms of people covered in GBV services, sexual and reproductive health services, capacity building and coordination.
These achievements can be broken down as follows :
200 health agents deployed
2,590 Dignity kits distributed
1,590 women and girls received cash assistance
3,868 women and girls received GBV services
287,243 new family planning acceptors
108,244 people aware of essential services against GBV
Until the arrival of a new UNFPA representative in Haiti, Zalha Assoumana, the deputy representative, will act as interim representative.
Saidou KABORE has more than 30 years of experience in the field of population program management, reproductive health, gender equality and gender-based violence programs with the governments of several countries, United Nations agencies, international and non-governmental organizations.
Mr. Kabore is an economist specialized in planning and development, with a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Ouagadougou-Burkina Faso.
He has held, among others, the positions of National Director of Programs of the Burkinabe Association for Family Welfare, a subsidiary of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Burkina, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Côte d'Ivoire and UNFPA Resident Representative in Mauritania.
The Government of Mauritania honored him as an Officer of the Order of National Merit, by Decree 161-2021 of the President of the Republic of 22 October 2021, for the results achieved by UNFPA.
