Port-au-Prince, July 3, 2023 - UNFPA in Haiti, the United Nations agency responsible for reproductive health in the country, welcomed on July 3, 2023, a new cohort of the Affirmative Internship Program. Sixteen (16) young talents will evolve in Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes for about six months, so that each of these young people realize their full potential.
These interns will be divided into various areas, such as Communication, Representation (Executive Office), Gender and Human Rights, Logistics, Humanitarian, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Operations (Pool), Sexual and Reproductive Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, Population and Development, Human Resources, Adolescents and Youth, and Finance.
According to UNFPA Deputy Representative in Haiti, Dr. Zalha Assoumana, these young people will benefit from six months of learning and capacity building, from July to December 2023.
Don't hesitate to ask questions when necessary, and take initiatives in concert with your supervisors," she points out. "We will work together to achieve the desired results and prepare for the future," she adds.
Interns feel that this support will enable them to develop professionally.
"We're very happy to be part of UNFPA's 2023 Affirmative Internship Program in Haiti," stresses Guetch-Luna intern Christelle Saurel.
We hope this experience will benefit us both personally and professionally," she says. "Our professional network will be strengthened and, after the internship, we'll be able to share the knowledge we've acquired with our immediate environment," she notes.
Marjorie Etienne Noël, who acts as Rector of the Affirmative Internship, witnessed the blossoming and transcendence of the interns in the face of the obstacles along the way.
“These young people seized this opportunity to distinguish themselves and bring real transformation to their community,” she says.
“I'm honored to see the exceptional results achieved by these promising young people," she says. "I look forward to discovering the added value of this fourth cohort of interns", she concludes.
Interns will work with experienced UNFPA professionals in Haiti in their chosen field, while being exposed to projects and programs from across the organization.
This Affirmative Internship Program reflects UNFPA's commitment to ensuring rights for all, especially young people, to create a world where they realize their full potential. UNFPA has opened the call for applications for this fourth cohort of the Affirmative Internship Program from April 17 to 29, 2023.
