Port-au-Prince, August 10, 2023 --- The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action (MJSAC in French) organized in Port-au-Prince, August 10, 2023, with the support of the UNFPA, UNDP and BINUH, a series of social, cultural, sports, recreational and educational activities to mark International Youth Day around the theme “Green skills for young people: towards a sustainable world”.

 

More than 200 young people from various neighborhoods of the metropolitan area of ​​the capital of Haiti participated in the Centre Sportif Dadadou in workshops on the environment, citizen participation, community violence and reproductive health.

 

The MJSAC wanted to promote youth as a sector of the future called to play an active role in the reconstruction of the country and national development.

 

Young people discussed the central role of young people who are called to develop their potential. The conference-debates and workshops were led by young people in a participatory manner.

 

The official ceremony of the International Youth Day will be punctuated by a youth exhibition fair, the awarding of prizes, interventions by officials and a socio-cultural show.

 

The MJSAC took advantage of this celebration to sensitize young people on certain social scourges, the importance of civic values, their role in promoting the culture of peace and their involvement in the social, economic, cultural, and political development of the country.

 

Concrete proposals made by young people will be submitted to the organizers, the State and the institutions concerned.

 

“Each year, International Youth Day is an opportunity to celebrate the determination, ideas and leadership of young people in our quest for a better world,” said United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
