Port-au-Prince, September 21, 2023 --- Young people of both sexes from precarious neighborhoods described in theatrical performances the multifaceted violence in Haiti on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day of Peace in Port-au-Prince on septembre 21, 2023.

Despite everything, they raised awareness among young people to act to promote lasting peace in Haiti.

Other young people promoted this peace in songs, slams and discussions.

“The culture of peace is a necessity for a stable, just and committed Haiti on the road to economic and social progress,” said the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, Raymonde Rival.

The Minister invited young people to continue to get involved in various citizen initiatives in favor of peace.

The United Nations System, through Commissioner Papa Samba who spoke on behalf of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, supported the Government's choice to focus this commemoration on youth and the important role that the latter must play in promoting peace and stability in Haiti.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC), in partnership with the United Nations System in Haiti and other partners including Concern, marked the International Day of Peace around the national theme “Together for peace: train, act, inspire”.

More than 150 young people participated in this commemoration. The Minister of Youth congratulated the UN for its support of young people in Haiti.

The International Day of Peace was declared by the United Nations General Assembly to reinforce the ideals of peace and to observe 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire. “Action for peace: our ambitions for the Global Goals” is the international theme of the International Day of Peace 2023.
